Lisa Abramowicz and Paul Sweeney talk to Chairman and CEO Ted Mathas about how New York Life is built for situations like the COVID-19 pandemic we face today.

The recent launch of the Brave of Heart Fund called for a Bloomberg Radio interview where Ted emphasizes the personal and relationship-oriented nature of New York Life’s work in helping people protect what matters most and his high confidence in the company’s ability to navigate today’s environment to continue to deliver human guidance.

Ted notes that over the company’s 175-year history, New York Life has been able to live up to its promises through epidemics, world wars, and financial crises due to its long-term orientation and the inherent value proposition embedded within the company. This is exemplified today by the company delivering flexibility to policy owners and certainty to its employees and financial professionals.

Commenting on how the current environment presents a calling for companies to dig deep when considering the essence of their missions and how they define themselves, he calls out that this is an opportune time for institutions to lean into their empathy and humanity.
