The head of New York Life’s Office of Governmental Affairs, George Nichols III, was recently named to the “2018 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America” list by Savoy, the leading African-American business and lifestyle magazine. This honor recognizes executives who are industry trailblazers that are leading efforts to foster growth for some of the highest performing companies in the U.S and internationally. This is Nichols’ second appearance on this list—he was first recognized on Savoy’s 2012 annual list.

Based in Washington, DC, Nichols and his team are responsible for all State, Federal, and International legislative/regulatory and public policy issues for New York Life as well as our Political Action Committee. He is also a member of the company’s Executive Management Committee, and assists CEO Ted Mathas in setting policy for New York Life. Prior to joining the company in 2001, Nichols was the Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Insurance.

“When I think about other successful black executives—both off and on this list—I am truly honored and humbled to be selected again,” says Nichols. “I am also grateful for my support system, the opportunities that were presented to me along the way, and my career journey that has brought me and my family to New York Life.”
