Summer Actuarial Internship Program
How our internship program works.
Interns are offered competitive pay based on the number of exams passed. Free housing is provided for our NY and PA offices (a housing stipend may be provided for other locations). Our program also includes a number of social events to ensure interns get the most out of their summer experience. Interns are considered for full time employment at the end of the program.

Preparing you for your future career.
Our program combines relevant work experience with a series of actuarial classes and presentations to prepare you for your future career.
Placement in a variety of departments—including pricing and financial reporting divisions—where interns work side-by-side with actuaries or senior level actuarial students.
Presented with challenging, real-world actuarial projects from the team with down-stream impacts.
At the conclusion of the program, interns present their project to the actuarial community.
Interns attend weekly presentations made by New York Life actuaries, offering them exposure to various roles and products.
We provide training classes for Microsoft Excel, VBA, and Prophet (our primary actuarial modeling software).
The work you’ll do at New York Life.
Interns work side-by-side with actuaries or senior level actuarial students, assisting with:
Actuarial research
The backbone of your internship includes research and statistical analysis, with a potential capstone presentation at end of the internship.
New products and features
You’ll help design brand new financial products, including new premiums and benefits.
Risk and portfolio optimization
Internships include quantifying our risk exposure and proposing ways to minimize it, while also projecting profitability of products.
What we’re looking for in a candidate.
Application Requirements
Junior or Senior standing
Junior or Senior standing, working toward a bachelor’s degree with an accredited college or university (or in a graduate program)
Preferred majors
Preferred majors: Actuarial Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Sciences, and Statistics
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, with strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of modeling packages
Knowledge of modeling packages, programming languages, and spreadsheet / database software
Successful passage
Successful passage of one or more Society of Actuaries exams preferred
