Q1 2025 NYL GBS Updates

In 2025, we’re continuing to invest in core areas to remove benefits administration work from our clients’ plates and make benefits easier for their employees. This starts with our “always on” listening approach, helping us identify changing market needs and, most importantly, identify opportunities to better serve those who rely on us. We then translate that feedback into action, taking measurable steps to advance our goals around providing consistent service excellence.

Here are some highlights of what we’ve accomplished over the past few months.

Key progress and outcomes to date

Making benefits administration easier for employers

  • New reporting enhancements in myNYLGBS.com enable employers to easily create customized reports with relevant and actionable data that is easy to interpret. Learn more.

Improving the customer experience

  • Claims processing has started for our new voluntary benefits offering
On January 1, 2025, we began claim processing and payments on our supplemental health plans
    • As a reminder, our accident insurance product offers proactive claims payments, so claimants receive a lump sum payment up front covering the course of treatment. No need to file separate claims or provide documentation.

  • Integrated claims experience
When an employee submits a disability claim, we will automatically check for potential related claims as it relates to leave, life, and supplemental health coverages. In many cases, we will auto-file these associated claims to make it even easier for employees.

  • Refreshed Disability Healthcare Connect (DHCC)
This enables data connections between Cigna medical plans and NYL GBS disability plans. With access to Cigna’s clinical data, we can create automated referrals and proactively send claim-filing reminders to ensure employees are utilizing their disability benefits.

  • New Life and AD&D claim intake through Empathy
Introduced at the end of 2024, our new intake portal has reduced time from submission to payout by nearly 43% so far. It also creates an additional channel for submission of AD&D, Accelerated Death Benefit & Waiver of Premium.
