At the New York Life Foundation, we believe the future is shaped by the people who show up early, consistently, and with care. Through Coaching the Future, our philanthropic focus is on expanding access to trusted guidance that helps young people build confidence, character, and a sense of purpose.
We define coaching broadly to include the many ways caring adults support young people's growth on the field, in the classroom, and throughout their lives. By partnering with nonprofit organizations across the country, we will invest in programs that train, equip, and support coaches and mentors who are helping young people learn, lead and connect.
We support organizations that strengthen youth sports by training coaches to support young people's growth and well-being and by expanding access to equipment and resources. These programs foster teamwork, resilience, and self-confidence through inclusive, supportive coaching.
We invest in mentorship and coaching programs that help young people build life, leadership and career skills. By connecting youth with trained, caring adults, these initiatives prepare students to navigate school, work and life with confidence and purpose.
We champion inclusive programs that ensure children and youth of all abilities have access to coaching, leadership and sports and recreational opportunities. These efforts help create spaces where every young person can belong, participate and grow.
We’re proud to partner with leading organizations working to expand access to coaching and mentorship for young people across the country. This work is backed by a $15 million investment over the next three years to train 25,000 coaches and ensure more young people have consistent, caring support in their lives.
Best Buddies International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for friendship, employment, leadership development and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our funding will advance inclusive mentoring opportunities nationwide for individuals of all abilities by strengthening training, chapter support and community engagement for individuals of all abilities.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) helps young people reach their full potential through a nationwide network of nearly 5,000 Clubs providing safe spaces, mentorship, and high-impact programs. Our funding will strengthen BGCA youth sports programs across the country by supporting coach training, equipment and facility upgrades, and community activations that build healthy habits, teamwork, and confidence.
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) builds girls' courage, confidence, and character through programming that empowers them to discover their strengths and take on new challenges. Our investment will expand Cookie College, a hands-on entrepreneurship experience that builds financial literacy, goal-setting and leadership skills, supported by a new bilingual national toolkit and mentorship from New York Life agents and employees.
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is a national nonprofit that partners with youth sports organizations to create positive, character-building sports environments. With our funding, PCA will train thousands of coaches in youth development–focused practices, helping create supportive, growth-oriented sports experiences so young people can thrive.
Together with our nonprofit partners, we're expanding access to trusted coaching and mentorship for young people nationwide, supporting the caring adults who help them build confidence, character, and a sense of purpose. In doing so, we proudly stand alongside the coaches and mentors shaping futures every day — one practice, one conversation, and one young person at a time.
