Local area grants Supporting grassroots organizations that make a difference

The New York Life Foundation not only takes a national approach to our funding priorities we also value the work and support of local and grassroots organizations making a difference in our communities. With that, we offer two Request for Proposal funding opportunities; one in each of our focus areas. Plus, at times, providing funding for special initiatives—check back or sign up to receive notification about these opportunities.

Coming Soon: Coaching the Future Request for Proposal

Coaching the Future is a New York Life Foundation initiative that expands access to trusted guidance and mentorship so young people can build confidence, character and a sense of purpose. The Foundation defines coaching broadly to include the many ways caring adults support young people’s growth on the field, in the classroom and throughout their lives.

 

Through Coaching the Future, the Foundation invests in programs that train, equip and support coaches and mentors who help young people learn, lead and connect. Grantmaking focuses on three pillars: On the Field Coaching, Off the Field Coaching, and All Abilities Coaching.

 

A new Coaching the Future Request for Proposal program is expected to launch in 2027.

Grief Reach

Since 2011, the New York Life Foundation has invested nearly $17 million through the Grief Reach Request for Proposal program to expand access to bereavement support for children, families and communities nationwide.

 

Administered in partnership with the National Alliance for Children’s Grief, Grief Reach provides funding to organizations that support grieving children and their families. The program offers grant opportunities throughout the year, with funding focused on the following areas:

 

  •  Capacity building and organizational development
  • Community education and professional training events
  • Community-based grief support and outreach
  • Program enhancement, innovation, and expansion
