Scholastic Features New Grief-Focused Art & Writing Awards

The New York Life Foundation is excited to announce a special partnership with the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program to encourage creative expression in teenagers who have personally experienced the loss of a close loved one.

Recognizing that a creative outlet can provide a safe space to teens who are trying to cope with the death of a loved one, the Foundation is sponsoring six $1000 scholarships that will be granted to students in grades 7-12 who have explored grief or loss in their original works of art or writing. Their work will be presented in exhibitions at New York Life offices and bereavement centers across the country in 2017.

In tandem with this program, the Foundation is also partnering with the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers to offer free art and writing workshops with a special focus on bereavement. Below please find a video describing the new initiative. For more information, email info@artandwriting.org or visit artandwriting.org/newyorklife.
