It’s one of our biggest employee events of the year: the Data Science Expo, which this year featured 28 different booths showcasing how New York Life is using data, data science, AI, and analytics across the company.

The event was hosted by the company’s Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, which is part of the newly formed AI and Data team. More than 350 employees attended in person in the Home Office in New York City on October 26, 2023. Additionally, over 200 employees attended virtually via a live Zoom session kicked off by our new Chief Data & Analytics Officer Don Vu.

Sixteen different teams showcased their work. Much of it focused on the use, or potential use, of generative AI (GenAI). In this area, there was a lot to learn, from the expected – using GenAI for the Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) Claims Genie to speed up claims communication and letter-writing – to the less expected – ordering food through a ChatGPT-powered AI waiter!

The booths also covered many other aspects of artificial intelligence, data science, and data that are helping to enable areas across the business. These diverse topics ranged from the analytics behind the Talent Management team’s Leadership Profile, to fluidless (without applicant blood/urine tests) model-driven underwriting, to agent retention efforts for Seguros Monterrey New York Life in Mexico.
