Craig DeSanto is president and CEO-elect of New York Life Insurance Company and a member of the Board of Directors. He will become the company’s 19th chief executive officer effective April 16, 2022.

Mr. DeSanto has served as New York Life’s president since July 2020 and as a member of the company’s Board of Directors since February 2021. He was appointed to New York Life's Executive Management Committee in January 2017.

Mr. DeSanto oversees all business areas of the company, including its agency distribution system, retail consumer insurance and investment businesses, and New York Life’s portfolio of industry-leading strategic businesses, which includes New York Life Investment Management, the company’s multi-boutique third-party asset management business. In addition, he has oversight of the company’s enterprise technology and risk management areas.

Mr. DeSanto joined New York Life in 1997 as an actuarial summer intern and has since held roles of increasing responsibility. In 2015, he was appointed leader of the company’s strategic businesses, where he strengthened and further diversified a portfolio of businesses that complement and support the company’s core individual life insurance business.

In 2018, Mr. DeSanto assumed oversight of New York Life’s top-ranked retail annuity business line. In 2019, he added oversight of New York Life Investment Management.  Before that, at different points in his career, he led the individual life insurance business, the institutional life insurance business, and Eagle Strategies. He is a former board member of LL Global Inc.

Mr. DeSanto earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
