Institutional Investor honor recognizes New York Life’s chief investment officer.

Craig Sabal, New York Life’s chief investment officer, was named Insurance CIO of the Year at Institutional Investor’s (II) 2026 Allocators’ Choice Awards.

Sabal oversees the investment strategy, asset allocation and portfolio management of New York Life’s $371 billion¹ and growing General Account — the investment portfolio that underpins the long-term promises and guarantees we make to policy owners.

The ninth annual Allocators’ Choice Awards brought investors together at New York City’s Mandarin Oriental to recognize standout work across pension funds, endowments, family offices, foundations, health care funds, sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies.

Winners are selected entirely by peer vote — chosen by the same caliber of professionals they compete alongside every day. Finalists are vetted by II's editorial staff with input from its advisory board, drawn from a pool of industry nominations and the publication's own research.
