Matt Marze tells Insurance Innovation Reporter how long-term modernization is enabling AI at scale.
Insurance Innovation Reporter recently sat down with Matt Marze, Chief Information Officer for New York Life Group Benefit Solutions (GBS), to discuss how years of careful technology modernization have positioned GBS to apply AI across the enterprise.
The piece describes how GBS has spent more than a decade simplifying its technology environment — consolidating core capabilities onto a small number of strategic platforms and building a unified data layer that makes information consistently available across the organization. While AI adoption across the industry is often complicated by fragmented legacy systems, that foundational work means GBS is able to embed AI into integrated workflows rather than isolated use cases — translating directly into measurable business results. That work, Marze explains, is what sets GBS apart as the industry moves to incorporate AI into daily operations.
"We're probably in the eighth inning of our tech modernization," Marze told Insurance Innovation Reporter. "Now we're focused on making it easier to do business with us."
The article also highlights how that foundation is now enabling GBS to focus on what matters most to clients and their employees — making the experience of doing business simpler and more connected.
"Insurance is complex, and it's not always easy to do business," Marze said. "We're looking at how we can take friction out of the system and make those experiences more seamless and intuitive."
