Whoever said “pilots” were passe in IT? Not New York Life’s Chief Information Officer Deepa Soni.

In a Wall Street Journal article titled “‘Piloting’ AI Tools Isn't Cool Anymore,” Soni said she’s always been a fan. “There's nothing wrong in my mind with the word pilot. I've always used pilots to roll out new technologies,” she said.

Soni did acknowledge the negative connotations associated with the term but said the key is not to overdo it with pilots. “We could do a hundred pilots, but if nothing made it to production, that to me is not the value of [information technology]. I would rather do half a dozen or a dozen big impactful things,” she said.
