New York Life | May 2, 2025
At this year’s InsurTech NY Spring Conference, New York Life proudly joined industry leaders and innovators to explore the evolving future of insurance technology (InsurTech). With a focus on digital transformation and strategic investment trends, the event offered a platform for meaningful dialogue on the next wave of InsurTech innovation.
Philip Sabo, Vice President of Foundational Business Data & Analytics, presented New York Life’s approach to updating our technology systems. He highlighted the benefits of making improvements step by step, using simplified development tools and customer-focused design principles. This approach has helped New York Life create better digital experiences for everyone who uses their systems — customers, agents, and employees alike.
John Masson, Director at New York Life Ventures, our corporate venture capital (CVC) division, was featured in a panel discussion on the evolving landscape of emerging venture capital funds. He highlighted key shifts driving limited partners’ increased interest in emerging funds and managers, including a growing appreciation for structural advantages such as smaller fund sizes, the ability to form closer, more collaborative relationships with general partners, and the expansion of institutional capabilities to allocate capital to these funds. Masson also shared how a forward-looking investment strategy can catalyze both innovation and competitive resilience for CVC investors in today’s rapidly changing economic environment.
In a separate interview with AM Best TV, Masson elaborated on how New York Life Ventures evaluates early-stage start-ups, highlighting the importance of balancing potential financial returns with New York Life’s strategic business objectives. Masson also shared insights on investing in emerging funds, advising investors to evaluate start-ups by their business strategy and the strength of their teams and industry networks.
