An Inclusive Company A place where you can be you

New York Life is one of the first environments I have experienced where diversity and inclusion are not just concepts, they are common practice.

Employee Resource Groups unite us

Our commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace helps us embrace and leverage our differences, empowering us to do our best and most innovative work. Guided by our core values, we continually strengthen our culture through programming and strategies that welcome participation from everyone.

We’re especially proud to support our seven Employee Resource Groups, each open to all employees—community members and allies alike: The Asian Pacific Circle; BOLD (Black Organization for Leadership and Development); ENABLE (disability-focused); LEAD (Latinos for Excellence, Advancement, and Development); NYLPride (LGBTQ+-focused); NYL-Vets; and The Women’s Initiative.

How we're making a difference

Here are some programs, initiatives, and partnerships that New York Life is proud to be a part of. Expand each section to learn more about our ongoing diversity and inclusion efforts.

At New York Life, our commitment to humanity, respect, and inclusion shapes a workplace where every voice is heard and valued. Since 2016, the DEI Center for Awareness and Advocacy has fostered meaningful dialogue through company-wide discussions on timely topics.

Our Coming Together series offers employees opportunities for respectful, impactful conversations, often featuring guest speakers and research-based insights. The Center also facilitates department-level sessions, strengthening relationships and encouraging diverse perspectives across teams.

The DEI Center for Awareness and Advocacy hosts a yearly campaign to encourage employees to engage with one another and learn about inclusion at New York Life. Building on the success of past campaigns, The Stories That Unite Us (2025) invites employees to share and celebrate the experiences that shape who we are and deepen our connections – culminating in creating personal brands statements that highlight our unique background and experiences. By elevating diverse perspectives and personal journeys, we honor the stories that bring us together and reinforce our shared commitment to building a workplace where everyone can thrive.

We’re committed to helping our employees grow—personally and professionally. In addition to a wide range of learning resources and career development tools, New York Life offers specialized programming through our DEI Center for Awareness and Advocacy.

The Center provides development opportunities such as:

  1. Mentorship through the Empower Program

  2. Career planning cohorts like Creating My Roadmap and Building My Career

  3. Networking and relationship-building workshops

  4. Self-directed growth programs like Career Horizons

These programs are open to all employees and are designed to help individuals build confidence, expand their networks, and navigate career paths with clarity and support.

The New York Life Supplier Diversity Program helps ensure that diverse businesses have equal access to our procurement process. Our focus is on improving representation among Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs); Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs); Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender-owned Business Enterprises (LGBTBEs); Disabled- owned Business Enterprises (DBEs); Veteran-owned Business Enterprises (VBEs); and Service-Disabled Veteran-owned Business Enterprises (SDVBEs).

For nearly 50 years, the New York Life Foundation has supported the people and places that need us most. Since 1979, the Foundation has awarded more than $470 million in charitable grants—amplifying the efforts of local and national nonprofits across the country.

In 2024, we provided $27.79 million in funding, with a focus on:

  • Childhood bereavement support, including resources for schools and families navigating grief
  • Middle school education programs that help students build foundational skills for long-term success
  • Strategic partnerships with organizations that expand educational access and emotional well-being for youth

In addition to financial contributions, our employees and agents gave more than 275,000 volunteer hours in 2024, demonstrating a hands-on commitment to community impact. Through initiatives like Volunteers for Good and our Acts of Kindness programs, we’re proud to support a culture of compassion and service.

Our mission is simple: help families and communities thrive— today and for generations to come.

At New York Life, we believe inclusive economic growth starts with meaningful investment in people and communities that have historically been underserved. Through strategic philanthropy, targeted community engagement, and responsible investing, we’re working to help build a more equitable financial future for all.

Expanding Opportunity Through Housing Innovation

Homeownership is a traditional pathway to wealth, but rising costs have put that goal out of reach for many. That’s why the New York Life Foundation invested in the Enterprise Community Partners’ Renter Wealth Creation Fund—a groundbreaking initiative designed to reshape rental housing economics. This fund ensures that residents, not just investors, share in the financial value of their homes.

Features include:

  • Cash-back rewards for on-time rent payments
  • Financial wellness services
  • A shared appreciation model that lets renters benefit when property values increase

It’s not just housing—it’s a new model for wealth-building and long-term stability.

New York Life’s Target Markets initiative helps our financial professionals better serve the unique needs of diverse communities nationwide. For decades, we’ve provided in-language and culturally relevant services and materials that reflect the lived experiences of African American, Asian, Latino, and Women’s market segments.

Our inclusive field force is one of our greatest strengths, allowing us to mirror the communities we serve and close the life insurance protection gap across all demographics. Through programs like our Cultural Ambassador initiative, we’re deepening cultural understanding, strengthening local engagement, and fostering a true sense of belonging in every community we touch.
